Based in St. Louis Missouri, the Blues were founded in 1967 as one of the 6 franchises created during the NHL’s expansion that same year. The Blues are named after the W. C. Handy song “Saint Louis Blues.”

In fact, beginning in 1980, the Blues would go on to qualify for the playoffs in 25 consecutive seasons.

One of the most notable St. Louis Blues players includes scoring sensation Brett Hull, nicknamed “Golden Brett.” Hull scored 86 goals in the 1990–1991 season—setting the record for most goals scored by a right-winger in a single season. Despite posting the second-best regular season record in the entire league in 1990–1991, the Blues were upset in the second round of the playoffs to the Minnesota North Stars, a defeat that was symbolic of St. Louis’ on-going playoff struggles.
